Comic reviews for the week of 2/1/12

Hot Pick of the Week: G.I. Joe #10 Cobra Command Part 4 (IDW Publishing) Chuck Dixon Writer/Alex Cal

What a mediocre week this was, out of fourteen books most were honorable mentions. Not to take away from the hot picks of the week but most of that load was from the big two! Chuck Dixon keeps this storyline rolling in Joe fashion and for a fourth week out of five in 2012 this series has been hot, not to mention has graced the hot pick twice in as long. Hasbro and IDW have made a sound and exciting choice in having Mr. Dixon write this storyline for what should be a big year for Joe with comics, toys and a sequel follow up to the 2009 Rise of Cobra. Alex Cal's art fits this book like a glove and captures these iconic characters as they should be. If you do not pick up this series by issue I advise to pick up the graphic when it is released.

Also Hot:

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi #0 (Dark Horse Comics) John Ostrander Writer/Jan Duursema Art
**Runner-Up** In 2006 Ostrander and Duursema lunched Star Wars Legacy, set 137 years after Star Wars A New Hope that ran for 50 issues with a six issue spin-off later on. One of the most celebrated expanded universe works and Dark Horse's best selling series to date. Well these to crazy creators are back at it again with this introductory book to this new series that launches in two weeks. If Legacy was any indication of what these two can bring to the Star Wars universe, I would have to say strap in for another great ride through a universe that we all have come to know and love. Only thing that kept this from the top spot was a 5 page story to go a long with this awesome compendium**

Avengers Xsanction #3 of 4 (Marvel Comics) Jeph Loeb Writer/Ed McGuinness Pencils/Dexter Vines Inks **Guess I have to wait till the last issue to see how this all turns out, still nothing relevant to a war between the Avengers & X-Men...Saving the best for last I presume.*

Uncanny X-Force #21 (Marvel Comics) Rick Remender Writer/Greg Tocchini Art **Even Remender can not save

Captain Britain from sounding and looking like a tool...But this team offers a great story and artwork to keep you wanting more***

Honorable Mention:

Batman: Detective Comics #6 (D.C. Comics) Tony S. Daniels Writer & Pencils/Sandu Florea Inks *This book is usually on top, I wish Daniels would concentrate on this book alone and let someone else handle the writing chores for  The Savage Hawkman.*

Red Lantern #6 (D.C. Comics) Peter Milligan Writer/Ed Benes & Diego Bernard Pencils/Rob Hunter Inks *Story has finally picked up a little and the art has been what keeps me picking this book up.*

The Amazing Spider-Man #679 (Marvel Comics) Dan Slott Writer/Humberto Ramos Pencils * I hate time travel stories as much as our favorite neighborhood web slinger.*
X-Factor #23 (Marvel Comics) Peter David Writer/Emanuela Lupacchino Pencils

G.I. Joe A Real American Hero! #175 (IDW Publishing) Larry Hama Writer/S.L. Gallant Art *Amazing how Larry Hama keeps this book fresh for so long**

Uncanny X-Men #6 (Marvel Comics) Kieron Gillen Writer/Greg Land Pencils *Remember when Uncanny was the hot book every single month, Why creative teams can not get it together like when you had Claremont/Lobdell/the Romita's/Silvestri/Lee/Portacio/Yu...How I yearn for such fantastic mutant tales*

The Transformers: Infestation 2 #1 of 2 (IDW Publishing) Chuck Dixon Writer/Guido Guidi Art *This book almost hit the hot list this week...Dixon is on fire*

Jurassic Strike Force 5 #1 (Zenescope/Silver Dragon) Joe Brusha & Neo Edmund Writers/JL Giles-Rivera Art *I considered this book as a contender for the hot list this
week, no kidding. A hidden independent gem.*

Stormwatch #6 (D.C. Comics) Paul Cornell Writer/Miguel Sepulveda Art *Six issues in a this has been a solid title with an appearance on the top pick of the week, to bad Cornell is departing. Lets see what direction this book goes in.*

Not so Hot:

Hawk & Dove #6 (D.C. Comics) Rob Liefeld Writer & Art
*First of all I must put in that Liefeld has been one of my favorite artist since he was first introduced to us legion of comic fans over twenty years ago on this same book. As a fan I must put that in, There are people that go out of there way to unjustly go after this man. Which makes no sense, give up he has been in the industry for so long and he produces. I would love to see the work of some of these critics. On to the book, just not my favorite Liefeld work and that is all, No hidden agenda here folks. I will get all the remaining issues of this series and what ever else Mr. Liefeld works on.
