As you can see from the above panel that the artwork is just spectacular and vibrant. The whole five episode series is this detailed throughout with beautiful visuals where for a few hours you are transported into another world of fantasy, science fiction, romance, action and war. For people that do not know Macross there are many incarnations of the series that take place in this story rich world. Some may remember it on American television as kids under the name of Robotech where Harmony Gold took three separate Japanese anime series Macross, Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada.Known to us as Macross, Masters and The New Generation.
Macross is so steeped in Anime history since its inception in 1982 with a message that to this day rings true. I viewed the first Macross movie some 30 years ago on VHS and shortly after that Robotech was on channel 11 every morning before I left for school. Now by no means is this the first Macross movie, OVA or Manga, This is just the prequel to the 1982 hit The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love. As always in spectacular fashion the Mecha (transformable mechanical robots) designs are awe inspiring as in most of this franchises storied history. This is a must say for anyone into sci-fi, fantasy and anime. Since this series has never been released in the continental United States it will be a little tricky to get, you will not find this in any whole sale store like Best Buy. I actually got my copies on E-Bay from a seller in Malaysia. It was so worth the hassle and wait, a well recommended series my any means of the imagination!
Up next I will review the original Macross movie and move my way through the many incarnations of the series, I am at this moment working my way through Macross 7 very slowly since it is 43 episodes long. Some time this week I will post Macross The Super Dimensional Fortress and Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: The Movie with hopes of doing Macross Plus sometime next week and following with Macross 7 and Macross Frontier in coming weeks.
