I am grateful people have come to check out reviews every week on the released titles. But it all comes to an end. This is the second time and there will not be a third time. I am turning all my time, which is limited because of a day job and a family which consists of a wife and two twin baby girls. I hope you stick around and if not I wish you the best on future endeavors.

Spell #2 is in the process of lettering and will be sent to the printer on 4/1/14, Spell #3 is already in the process of being penciled and inked. This is my true love and forever will be.

Pick of the Week: Jupiter's Legacy #4 (Image Comics) Mark Millar Writer/Frank Quitely Art

This book would most likely take the top honors month after month. Problem is it only comes out every 3 plus months. Well that usually holds me back from giving the top honors to a book, but everything put into this book can not stop that level headedness. I hope in the future this book comes out on a better schedule, but look at the creators and if you have picked it up you know what I am talking about. This is basically the X-Men gone bad!!!!

Runner-Up: Wolverine and the X-Men #1 (Marvel Comics) Jason Latour Writer/Mahmud Asrar Art

I was kind of weary on the relaunch of this title, the first series was one of my favorite series for most of its run. Well Jason Aaron, your legacy is being followed up well by Latour and Bacahalo does not have to worry cause Asrar, not as good has the right stuff for this book. Cant wait to see where this creative team takes us!!!!

Pick of the Week: Black Science #4 (Image Comics) Rick Remender Writer/Matteo Scalera & Dean White Art

I grew up listening to old time radio on the local radio station 95.5 FM WBAI on such shows as Golden Age of Radio, Mass Backwards and Hour of the Wolf all which at one time played old radio shows such as X-Minus One, The Shadow and so many other shows of yester-year. Other then Remender's Marvel/super hero work Black Science and Fear Agent remind me of this almost forgotten art form from a different time period. Here is the thing, his writing works today in the same way it would of over 70 years ago. The reason is he tells stories that are classics ad timeless, you take this and surround such a talent with great artists and you have a award winning comicbook writer in a nut shell!

Runner-Up: Guardians of the Galaxy #12 (Marvel Comics) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Sara Pinchelli & Stuart Immonen Pencils

Yet again Guardians is one of the best books on the market month after month with Bendis writing and two of the brightest and upcoming stars in the business playing with there crayons...This is all that and a bag of bagel bits!!!
Pick of the Week: Uncanny X-Men #17 (Marvel Comics) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Chris Bachalo Pencils/Tim Townsend Inks

What is this? Volume 3 of Uncanny X-Men, I really can not keep track. I was so upset when they discontinued the first and original Uncanny title and i will probably never be able to forgive Marvel/Disney on that little screw up. I can say this volume thanks to the likes of Bendis/Bachalo/Townsend is leaps and bounds better then the last series. Good thing cause X-Men plainly titled is a shit fest in the making since issue #2. I know one does not only get a pass, but was actually promising and looked good before the following issues. I have missed the mysticism and wonderment of the 80's and 90's mutant books and Uncanny X-Men has recaptured that wonderment as the original series.
Batman has been great since its relaunch into "The New 52", well get ready for Batman Eternal. Last time I felt this way about a future look on Batman was Batman "Frank Miller's" Returns. No joke, I am not in the business of joking about such a statement.
Another month and another grab at the top spot, I am not even going to say anything. Reason for that is I have nothing more to say. This is D.C. Comics best monthly title on the racks for 21 months straight it has not wavered no matter who is on the creative side of things. Great idea leads to a great book month after month!!!
I have been a fan of GotG since it was released in the early 90's spearheaded by one of Image Comic's founding fathers Jim Valentino. Since then I have been hooked line and sinker, where i had to track down earlier material of there adventures. A few years ago I was weary when DnA launched a new series by the same name and to my satisfaction I was yet again blown away. fast forward to 2013 and Marvel yet again does not only impress but surpasses the prior versions of this book. Bendis is writing a wonderful tale that keeps getting better as it gains even more momentum with some of the best artists in the field supplying the artwork. Which brings me to Sara Pichelli. I wish all I was able to say was wow, but no. I see her work getting better every issue and I have not liked an artist work this much in a very long time, this is the kind of caliber work that built a little company called Image. I can not wait for more work from her and I have already started backtracking to catch up on her earlier works.
Runner-Up: Serenity Firefly Class 03-K64 #1 (Dark Horse Comics) Zack (Fringe) Whedon Writer/Georges (Bishop: The Last X-Men) Jeanty Art

Serenity picks up months after the Serenity movie ended and already has matched what has come before. I wouldn't exactly call myself a Browncoat, but I was a fan of Firefly from the night it premiered on Fox and cringed the day it was canceled. Fox didn't even have the balls to finish airing the remaining produced episodes of the first season. Since then Fox I believe see's they have made a mistake. You can not go wrong with this book, Firefly...Check, A Whedon on the book...Check! Pick it up, it's about time Firefly/Serenity has come back to the comic shelves!
Pick of the Week: Eternal Warrior #5 (Valiant Ent.) Greg Pak Writer/Robert Gill Art

It may only be the first month of the year, but this is my far my hottest pick that has been released. Nothing has come this close to picking a book or producing a choice that would surpass this book. Not only am I happy with the issue of Eternal Warrior, I have loved the series thus far. The writing and art have been at the top of the heap. I can not wait for more of this book, it is like a diamond in the rough and I hope that is the outcome for the coming months. Futuristic + Ancient = kick ass greatness!
Runner-Up: All-New X-Men #22 (Marvel Comic) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Stuart Immonen Pencils

I have not been too fond of the X-titles in the last two years and beyond. The two that have stood out has been Wolverine and the X-Men and since its inception All New X-Men. All the other X-titles in my opinion have been hit or miss. Well I can not pull the wool over the eyes of these creators, nor can I hide the fact that this title and the Wolverine and X-Men title are the only two to shine in the last few years, wile Uncanny does hit a spot cause of Bachalo! I just wish I could write some of these mutant titles to turn shit straight!
Not So Hot: X-Men #9 (Marvel Comics) I tried, and I tried!!! I just can not find it in me to feel this book 9 issues in. In my opinion it is not the all female team. Not at all, some of my favorite X-Men are females, most of my favorite X-Men are females. I just do not like the story line., also let me go out on a limb. After a decade if not a little less I must admit I truly hate art done by the Dodson couple. They have done a lot of X-Titles in the last decade and it makes me hate the genre even more then the writing. I do not think I would mind there style on a Spider-Man title or even the Avengers. Am I the only one to have this complaint?
Pick of the Week: Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Cry of Shadows #2 (Dark Horse Comics) Tim Siedell Writer/Gabriel Guzman Art

This is not the first mini series published by Dark Horse featuring the Dark Lord himself. I have really thought the quality of the art and stories on all the previous Vader series were amazing and top notch. Well a month ago I would of told you how I hated this chapter of Vader's story, well 30 days or so and I am here to praise this title. This book is by far the book I enjoyed most this week.
Runner-Up: All-New X-Factor #1 (Marvel Comics) Peter David Writer/Carmine Di Giandomenico Art

Another unnecessary Marvel reboot can not keep the already incumbent X-Factor writer off the runner-up honors. Somewhat different team and good art hold up to David's scribe. I enjoyed this reboot even though they should of just continued as in the old days from what ever issue the book was up to with the headline "All New" or "New Team" or "Jumping On Point". Marvel has got to stop being the money hungry entity that they are, I have cut many Marvel books of late and may just continue on that rout. Good job Disney!!!!

Pick of the Week: Guardians of the Galaxy #10 (Marvel Comics) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Kevin Maguire Art

Each incarnation of Guardians of the Galaxy gets better, its like a fine aged wine. Valentino took a group of future heroes from the 60's & 70's and brought them into the 90's with a bang. In 2008 DnA and Pelletier, Walker & Craig did the unthinkable and made this title even better, critically acclaimed at the time but with slow sales was cancelled. Fast forward 2013 and again I was a little skeptical with this new series just like the DnA version of GotG. Well all those heads can be put to bed! Bendis and Gaiman has written a cosmic masterpiece while the art provided by McNiven, Maguire, Francavilla and the most talented Sara Pichelli (Her art Rocks)! With a movie coming this summer I see some good Guardians of the Galaxy material for the immediate future if not longer.

Runner-Up: Legenderry #1 (Dynamite Ent.) Bill Willingham Writer/Sergio Davila Art/Joe Benitez Cover and Revelations #1 of 6 (Boom Studios) Paul Jenkins Writer/Humberto Ramos Art

I could not leave either of these titles out, that is how out of the ballpark they were. May I also mention I was not picking up either of them. Legenderry happened thanks to my comic supplier, he throws sketch covers in my pull pile so I can doodle and this happened to be one of those sketch covers. I have never really been into the whole steampunk genre to be truthful with you, maybe a hand full that I can recall such as Lady Mechanika and Transformers Evolutions: Heart of Steel. Well I really got into this book from cover to cover and this is now added to my pull list. The other hidden gem was Revelations with a religious undertone and a potty mouth detective. I did not even realize that this was being released this week, good thing cause Ramos was great with Spider-Man and Wolverine for Marvel. This is also now on my pull list!
Pick of the Week: Origin II #1 (Marvel Comics) Kieron Gillen Writer/Adam Kubert Art/Frank Martin Colors

The artwork and story are sweet from cover to cover! Love the perspective of Wolverine in the wilderness and cant wait for next months issue to see where this chapter in Wolverines history is headed. Kubert impresses as always but more so in this first installment, the line art is beautiful and complimented well with Frank Martins coloring chores.
Big Robotech and Voltron fan and felt maybe this would of been a little better if Dynamite started with the on-going Robotech series before jumping into the cross over event.
First off Merry Christmas, Happy New Years and Happy Holidays. Now that that is out of the way lets get down to business. Many have been wondering about a release date for Spell #2, It will be the first quarter of 2014. I am beginning production on Spell #3 in the form of plotting and penciling in a hour or so. I actually used my last two vacation days to dedicate all of Thursday and Friday to get as many pages plotted as I can possible do.

1. Spell #2 - End of the 1st quarter of 2014, when I get closer to release I will announce a date and not before. Spell #2 has been done and in the can for almost 10 months now, most may ask why? Well I did not like the gap between the 1st issue and the time it took to produce the 2nd issue, also for those that do not know I have twin 19 month baby girls and a full time day job. This makes it hard to produce a book just with the job, you add the kids and family it almost came to a halt for good. I even questioned if I would ever be able to produce on a level and time frame that would make me happy and at this time the answer is yes!

2. Spell #3 - The third installment will be released in the late 3rd quarter/early 4th quarter of 2014. Wish me luck on this, I would love to release this book to coincide with 2014's New York Comic Con. But only time will tell!

3. For the time being the comic reviews will continue, if at anytime I feel this gets in the way of my work I will dump the reviews and cut my comic intake to get the books out in a timely fashion

4. So Spell #1 in my opinion was a success, I ordered 160 copies and only have 4 copies left and a few copies sold online. I actually made more money then I put into the book in way of supplies and printing cost. The amount of time I put in was not covered, but all in all I enjoy doing this and you never know. So I would love if more people come out and order the 1st issue from Indy Planet Spell #1 Link to purchase or contact me for a copy at secaucusartist@comcast.net

To celebrate the holiday season I will be posting Spell #1 in its entirety through the next 3 days, hope you enjoy and please support Spell, PsychoRelik Studios and independent comics. Click on each page to get a full page view.
Top Pick of the Week: Saga Chapter #17 (Image Comics) Brian K. Vaughan Writer/Fiona Staples

One of the top independent books two years running, thought provocative science fiction at its all time best! Vaughan & Staples puts together a book they can be proud of, this is definitely the princess of the ball!
Runner-Up: Star Trek #28 (IDW Publishing) Mike Johnson Writer/Refan Orci Art

Where Marvel failed and D.C. just missed the mark, IDW hits one out of this galaxy with Star Trek. This will keep me satisfied till the next movie or (keeping my fingers crossed) a new T.V. series.

Pick of the Week: Star Wars #12 (Dark Horse Comics) Brian Wood Writer/Carlos D'Anda Art/Hugh Fleming Cover

Dark Horse has held the Star Wars comic license for what seems like ages, so when they re-launched Star Wars with the original cast 12 months back I was thrilled just for the original cast to be back in print with new adventures. Brian (DMZ, The Massive) Wood is at the top of his game, writing a continuing story set in between after the battle of Yavin and Empire Strikes Back. It is in my opinion that this is one of the best time periods in the Star Wars mythos. Accompanying Wood's writing is Carlos (Deathblow, Batman Arkham City) D'Anda stylish artwork that fits so good with this book. He captures the whole Star Wars universe like so many could not, he joins the ranks of Archie Goodwin, Cam Kennedy, Jan Duursema & Dave Dorman.

Runner-Up: Unity #2 (Valiant Ent.) Matt (MIND MGT) Kindt Writer/Doug (Judge Dread) Braithwaite

The original Unity published during Valiant's first go around in the industry is a classic, well the new Unity is becoming a classic already. Great writing and art work keep this action packed storyline going strong.
Pick of the Week: Earth 2 #18 (D.C. Comics) Tom Taylor Writer/Nicola Scott Pencils/Trevor Scott Inks

This book is by far the greatest of all the books published on a monthly basis from D.C. Comics. The fact that this book is not part of the same New 52 universes timeline that almost all of the publishers books follows makes it a winner with no other titles getting its back. The creative team is top notch and leave you craving more after every cliff hanger.
This book is by far one of my favorites month after month. It is action packed science fiction at its all time best. The writing is imaginative and the art is on par with or even better then the two major publishers. Pick this up to escape this world and enter a whole new world of discovery and intrigue!
Pick of the Week: Infinity #6 of 6 (Marvel Comics) Jonathan Hickman Writer/Jim Cheung & Dustin Weaver Pencils/Adam Kubert Cover

Just like this epic story started, it also ended with a bang. One of the best major events I have read in a long time from any publisher on the market today. This had it all and then some, Sci-Fi and Super Hero fans must get this 6 issue mini-series. You can enjoy these 6 issues without picking up any of the tie-in titles and still get the whole story.
Pick of the Week: Uncanny X-Men #14 (Marvel Comics) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Chris Bachalo Pencils/Tim Townsend Inks

After so many volumes of Uncanny X-Men I am almost over one of the greatest series ever published. I wish Marvel would make up for there transgressions by going back to the original count on volume one of this book. Then came this issue and those feelings almost fade away into an abyss, almost!!! No really, this was one great Uncanny issue, It was well written and as always Bachalo and Townsend scribble some great pages. Let me sum it up like this, fast paced, sexy, creative and light hearted in the only fashion a the milestone mutant book should be.
Pick of the Week: Savage Wolverine #11 (Marvel Comics) Writer & Artist Jock

One of my favorite solo Wolverine stories in a very long time. I was never the biggest fan of Jock, but now I have to go back and check out some of his former work. This 3 issue story will make any X-Men/Wolverine/Mutant fan happy as a pig in month. It also has the right mix and flare of Science Fiction Fantasy to get the juices and imagination going. Must get for any fan of the genre's!!!
Runer-Up: Unity #1 (Valiant Comics) Matt Kindt Writer/Doug Braithwaite Art

In 1992 Valiant was all the rage and I was knee deep in collecting there books. Back in the 90's, comics were all the rage and had a resurgence in print. Valiant came with a different vision on how comics were produced and a whole new take on heroes. Unity was there first major cross over event and the revamped Unity for the new generation does not fall short of the original. I almost feel this first issue of Unity is better then the original series. This coming right after the Harbinger Wars crossover which was splendid, Unity follows up hardcore with amazing words and art.
Pick of the Week: Earth 2 #17 (D.C. Comics) Tom Taylor Writer/Nicola Scott Pencils/Trevor Scott Inks

So all in all it was a pretty damn good week and a bang for your buck. So Earth 2 has had the top honors in the past and has been a great read since the first issue, all I have heard through chatter was will the story remain and good with a new writer on board??? Well Tom Taylor carries over and continues what I believe is one of D.C.'s best titles and does a outstanding job. I was not only hppy with this issue, I can not wait for the next one. Thirty or so days seems like such a long way off. Scoot and Scott perform brilliantly as they have in the past on this book with great art.

Runner-Up: Batman Superman #5 (D.C. Comics) Greg Pak Writer/Brett Booth Pencils/Norm Rapmund Inks

So D.C. has captured the top two books this week after Marvel has had a good run. Was I worried for a second when I knew Brett Booth was filling in to give Jae Lee a break to start the next story arc? No not at all. I have been following Booth and Rapmund since there Image days, I would kill for a Booth and Rapmund Backlach re-launch over at D.C.. Greg Pak, what to say, Marvel and D.C. it does not matter. He always serves up stories to get the reader involved and keep reading. Great talent on this book all around!
