One of the best series I have read in years...This is how you put a book together. I do not believe Image or Dark Horse have not tried to release this title under there banner. This is one of those titles that mixes fast paced action, adventure and science fiction all rolled into one. Books like this only come around once in a while, with a mind blowing script by Chuck Paschall and art so brilliant and that literally jumps off the pages by Vince Riley. It gives me flashs of such anime titles such as Appleseed, Grey and a mix of Jan Duursema Star Wars books. This is a one, two punch of a team. Can not wait for more material from these two. A must read book hands down.

Review: The Culling #0

The Culling #0 (O.M.U.G. Comics) Luca O'Keefe & Ben Craine Writers/Gerald Ngau & Sean M. Jones Art

The cover really gets you doesn't it? It got me. I always fall for a good science fiction book with a hot chick, it's my weak spot. The high point of the book is the cover, the interior art is good but not on par with the front page of this 8 page zero issue. I really did enjoy the art I must report. My biggest gripe over this book is the lettering and panel layout. the lettering is all over the place and sometimes hard to follow and toward the end two pages of panels during a fight scene are just all on top of each other and breaks the flow of the story. All in all it has a good price point at $2.50 and I will be looking into more books from these creators, they did sell me and I did enjoy it. I expect to see them get better with time which is always the case when starting on a huge venture such as a comic book. You can find this title at the following sites:

Hot Pick of the Week: Aquaman #5 (D.C. Comics) Geoff Johns Writer/Ivan Reis Pencils/Joe Prado Inks

You hear jokes about Aquaman all the time, I think this iconic creative team has worked very hard on changing peoples minds. They have succeeded and passed all expectations like no one has been able to do with this history rich character in a very long time. I also do not count the Aquman that lost his arm, lame. Geoff Johns proves over and over that he is a maestro of words and Ivan Reis with the help of the talented Joe Prado lay some very exciting pages down for your enjoyment. This book gets hotter every month it is released and I do not see it cooling off for quite a while. Up next Atlantis!

Hot Book of the week: RedHood and the Outlaws #5 (D.C. Comics) Scott Lobdell Writer/Kenneth Rocafort Art

Five month's in to the New 52 and by far this is the title that sticks out the most. With great story telling from Scott (Uncanny X-Men/Teen Titans) Lobdell this title is a cross between D.C. Comics standard lore, Blade Runner, Dark Crystal and Indiana Jones all rolled into one. Amazing is what I will call the first five issues of this series, you also can not go wrong when you have the styling outrageous art of Kenneth (Velocity) Rocafort. I hope this is one creative team that stays with this book for quite a while, I know for a fact these two great creators will be running with RedHood for at least the first nine issues.

Morning Glories #15 (Image Comics) Nick Spencer Writer/Joe Eisma Art/Rodin Esquejo Cover **Runner Up** This is one of the main reasons I collect comic books. Morning Glories since issue one has had more twists and turns then Lost had when it was on T.V. One of the best

cast building books out there. Great art does not hurt this title either**

Hot Pick of the Week: Star Wars Agent of the Empire: Iron Eclipse #2 of 5 (Dark Horse Comics) John Ostrander Writer/Stephane Roux Pencils/Julien Hugonnard-Bert Inks

I remember having a boxset of Star Wars VHS tapes and I can tell you that those tapes got ran into the ground being the SW fan that I am. To this day I have read every single issue, mini-series and one-shots that Dark Horse has published since Star Wars Dark Empire was released in 1991. I am also here to tell you that Star Wars Agent of the Empire has earned a spot in the upper echelon of Star Wars material that has been released. John Ostrander just has a knack for writing stories in a universe already so packed with detail and steeped in lore, it makes you wonder how a man can keep a 35 year old franchise fresh as the day it first premiered on the big screen. The art team on this book complements an already outstanding title. This is a most have for all comic fans!

Review: Menel: The Spirit of Adonai #.00

I truly do miss Michael Turner, as a person and as an artist. He was at the top of the game and also went out on that way. Menel: The Spirit of Adonai #.00 is very intriguing to say the least, my biggest gripe is the amount of pages in this issue. It leaves a lot to be desired with such a short story, on the other hand the art is incredible and reminds me of Turners art. The story is still very interesting no matter the lack of size. It does make up with the quality of the work that went into this book from Particle 9 Productions. The creative crew does a great job and leaves you with an impression of greater work to come. All artistic chores on this book go to the trio of Chasen Grieshop Story & Art, Carly Spade Flats and edited by Sandie Henry. Plus I see there is another book on there site that looks interesting and will be putting out my money to check it out, this title is called Ecru: Butcher of Balis. Review: Antic The Chapter of Levith-The Seige: Book 1

I yearn for the day when I could get my hands on a book such as the great books that came out from Dreamwave back in the the mid 90's to its dismantling in 2005. I have not come across many books with the same feel of great books such as Fate of the Blade, Sandscape and Warlands...Till now!!! This book has a cover that screams open me and read the secrets I hold inside. G2 Comics and Daniel Gracey delivers good with a book that has a solid story of introduction and art that sticks out page after fantastic page. The one downfall is that it does not carry as many page as your standard comic, but makes up for it in quality to detail in the craftsmanship of this first solid issue. I will be picking up the second installment and I see on the G2 site that #3 is on the horizon. This book can be found for sale in print and digital download at the following websites. G.I. Joe #9 Cobra Command Pt.1 (IDW Publishing) Chuck Dixon Writer/Alex Cal Art

2012 has started off with a bang after a solid week of some great books. TopCow/Image jumped out front with Witchblade #151 and Artifacts #13 which I will point out were two extraordinary books in themselves. But Chuck Dixon scribes a story that would stand up with some of the best Larry Hama issues of G.I. Joe A Real American Hero in the late 80's at Marvel. Alex Cal is the right pick for the art duties on this book by far, he gets better issue after issue of G.I. Joe. I usually hold any G.I. Joe, Transformers and other pop culture 80's books at a higher standard than your normal run of the mill comic, the reason behind that mindset is that most pop culture books are frowned upon and not put in the same bracket as your run of the mill super hero book from one of the major companies. But I must say that these books have had there staying power for almost three decades. This issue is just awesome and has a major re-read factor, I went through this book three times. Also a great jumping on point with this new nine part story arc beginning. IDW has stepped up there game with there G.I. Joe line, Marvel is the original series and IDW is in a close second place.

Hot picks of the Week: Witchblade #151 Rebirth (TopCow/Image Comics) Tim Seely & Ron Marz Writers/Diego Bernard & John Tyler Christopher Art & Artifacts #13 (TopCow/Image Comics) Ron Marz Writer/Dale Keown & Tom Raney Art

WOW!!! Top Cow Rebirth!!! Image comics has started 2012 out with a bang. Look at the creative teams on both these books for this month. When is the last time Dale Keown has done something, how I have missed the legendary art of Dale "Hulk" Keown. This is with a transition from the Artifacts story coming to a conclusion and therefore you have rebirth when the old TC universe comes to a end. The other major difference was the change of the guard on Witchblade, from Marz/Sejec to Seeley/Bernard, I may report it was the smoothest transition ever with a story that moves in a different direction but still feels like the book I have come to know and love. Also next month the former Witchblade team of Marz/Sejec hook up for Artifacts issue 14. Let's see where the next 12 months takes us.

Have I failed to mention that not only is there two book on top this week there actually is a third which trumps both WB & Artifacts that I will announce tomorrow. Good week...Very good week!!!

Hot Pick of the Week: Aquaman #4 (D.C. Comics) Geoff Johns Writer/Ivan Reis Pencils/Joe Prado Inks

In my opinion this on-going series out of the birth of D.C.'s The New 52 is one of the brightest spots in comics today. I have not picked up Aquaman in any capacity since the early 90's, but I felt when you have a creative team such as this it may as well be a shoe in. And it has been, Coming from some of the key members that brought Green Lantern back from the dead some years back. The story is well written and the art work provided by Reis/Prado is spectacular and fits this title like a glove. I have seen and read on what is coming in this revamped Aquaman title in 2012 and personally I cant wait experience this grand adventure.

Penciled Page to Spell #2

It actually was not my favorite year, but it is always a win when the good out weights the bad. I finally got the ball rolling and put a book out, The good is I got off my lazy ass and did something I am proud of. I am by far my worst critic, I will trash my work with the best of them. I see all my mistakes and it drives me crazy, but at the end of the day I feel like I accomplished a book I can stand by. Now on to the next book.

I had a total of 115 posts on PsychoRelik this year and over 13,000 hits, including photos from NYCC. I can not believe the support and must thank you all. This year I plan on so much more, I am hoping to release a new Spell book quarterly and may have recruited a few people to help out with the second issue in the way of a back up story and pin-ups. Trust me, it will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get a table this year at New York Comic Con and once I have details I will post news on this development. Enough about me, now for a review of the best and the worst of 2011...

This was the easiest choice I have made in my life. Hands down D.C. has come back with a vengeance and has blown the competition away. I just hope that holds true for 2012, it would really be hard to swallow if all this work on The New 52 went to waste.

Runners Up: Morning Glories (Image Comics) & Voodoo (D.C. Comics)

Please, who seen that coming? No really, this by far was one of the hottest of the releases from D.C. comics. You do not know Aquaman, trust me on this. A must have book and with a sneak peek of what is to come in 2012 from this book I don't think it will let us down.

Hot pick of the Week: Wolverine and the X-Men #3 Regenesis (Marvel Comics) Jason Aaron Writer/Chris Bachalo Pencils/Tim Townsend Inks

Three issues in and it has only graced the top spot in two of those three months. It is not easy to do that in any review column in and genre. The last time an X-title of this caliber came out it was the 90's and that book was called Generation-X. Matter of a fact, one of this books creative team was a part of that launch, Chris Bachalo. Add Jason Aaron's gift for comic gab and you have a stallion coming out the gate. Can not wait to see the direction this book goes in, it a true winner.

Wave 4 of this prized collection is by far the best, I say that even with more Renegade figures in this wave. Even though the Airtight & Law & Order figures are based on the Renegades incarnation of G.I. Joe they still fall under older developed characters that are main stay favorites even today. Then there is the two top dogs of wave 4 with Lifeline & Sci-Fi and may I say Hasbro out did them selves with these classic mainstays. The only weak link in this wave is the Zombie-Viper, even though it is a beautifully sculpted figure it is not one of my favorites. All in all this Wave is by far my number one till Hasbro and G.I. Joe puts another wave out that is this hot.

Hot Pick of the Week: Star Wars Agent of the Empire: Iron Eclipse #1 of 5 (Dark Horse Comics) John Ostrander Writer/Stephane Roux Pencils

As always John Ostrander delivers with some of the best Star Wars material to date, stop this guy. No really try to stop this man from putting some of the greatest Star Wars stories no matter what era of the iconic story can be displayed. That goes doubly for this new series, the art by Roux and inks by Hugonnard-Bert compliments Ostrander's word to the letter. Last time I was this excited about a Star Wars project like this was Star Wars: Legacy which is also a brain child of John's. It would also be nice to see what Jan Durrsema have to cook up next in this luscious universe. After I read this issue I went on CBR and see they have a review that gives this issue a 5 out of 5. Nice...This is the must have SW book!!!

I have a soft spot for X-Force being that I was around from its inception and Rob Liefeld. Just did not like the ending to this epic storyline. Rick Remender is almost always on the mark. Everyone has off days, I still love Remender's work , the ending was just not my cup of tea.

Hot pick of the week: Avenging Spider-Man #2 (Marvel Comics) Zeb Wells Writer/Joe Madureira Art

Life is good when you are a fan of comic books and you get the Legendary Joe Madureira (Battle Chasers/Uncanny X-Men) back in the game. He has sure been missed and he has come back to the business with a vengeance after being out of the monthly title grind for a very long time, too long if you ask me. Zeb Wells has delivered with some very intriguing dialogue for our favorite webslinger and supporting cast. Each issue keeps me guessing and waiting for next month for the answers. This is one hell of a fun comic book to read for collector to any one that just may browse to a left out copy. Get a webbed copy in your hands!

G.I. Joe Wave 3 30th Anniversary Collection

Wave 3 is another G.I. Joe Renegades wave with the exception of a re-sculpted re-issue of the Techno Viper. All in all it is a nice wave and some of the Renegade figures have been bulked up with more accessories unlike wave 2. Wave 4 is supposed to be more well rounded with some Renegade and some classic figures for this lovely 30th anniversary line. My favorites from this wave is the nostalgic Techno Viper and the Renegade version of Scarlett.

G.I. Joe Wave 2 30th Anniversary Collection

Wave 2 of the 30th Anniversary Collection is a smaller release than wave 1 with only 4 figures in total. These figures are all new sculpts and follow the cancelled G.I. Joe Renegades HUB network of the same name. Here is where I have a gripe, I think these figures should not of been released under the 30th Anniversary line, they should of been released under there own banner and not this line. Do not get me wrong, Wave 2 has nice sculpted figures never released before and that is always good to breath in new life to your toy line. Biggest problem with this wave is that there are like no accessories like in the Pursuit of Cobra line. It was even brought up in a Q. & A. on http://www.hisstank.com/, Hasbro's reasoning was that it was more cost effective to release this wave as is to keep production cost down. But all in all it is an enjoyable wave especially for the Renegade fans out there.

G.I. Joe Wave 1 30th Anniversary Collection

It has been a while since I reviewed new figures from Hasbo's G.I. Joe line, I will post reviews of the first 3 waves within the coming days. Wave 1 comprises of 6 figures, four of them are re-released figures that were first released in the last wave of The Pursuit of Cobra line. Steel Brigade, Cobra Trooper, Cobra Viper and Iron Grenadier are the four figures previously released under The Pursuit of Cobra line and the two new figures are a re-sculpted figure for Stalker and the never released Hazard Viper. All six figures are beautifully sculpted and painted to perfection and the addition of a new remodeled Stalker for the 21 century and the release of the amazing looking Hazard Viper puts this wave over the top. These figures are not only highly detailed but also come with tons of weapons and accessories.

Wave 1 Rating: 4 out of 5 (Would of been a slam dunk if more than half the wave was not re-released figures)

Review: Dead Man's Party

     I decided since the release of Spell #1 that I would support some of the artist's, writer's and independent comics you can find on http://www.indyplanet.com/store/ and also at http://www.comicsmonkey.com/store/. Same two sites you can find Spell #1 and so many other great independent reads.

     I will say I do not pick up many black and white interior books probably since the late 80's and early 90's which I may say were mostly Manga such as Appleseed, Grey and so many more great manga properties. Then you had such greats like Ex-Mutants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Zen: The Intergalactic Ninja and a slew of Robotech comics from 3 different companies. A lot of great material during those years from independent craters and publishers.

     I actually went and ordered a nice handful of titles a few weeks back and I plan on doing reviews of each title to promote independent comics. I actually got the first comic that was printed by Ka-Blam and is for sale on both the sites about a year ago, Ugaara #1 created by Wil Jones. This is what finally gave me the idea of putting out my own book.

     I actually picked up Dead Man's Party #1 not from these sites but at the New York Comic-Con this year where I also got to meet the creators of this awesome book. I was quite impressed when meeting Jeff Marsick (Writer) and Scott Barnett (Art) at NYCC this year and were kind enough to sign my copy and talk shop. The reason this will always stick out in my mind is for the basic fact that they were the only people that actually approached me and not wait for me to come up to there table like most of the creators in attendance at NYCC. For them to take there time and promote there passion in comics was quite impressive, it is very rare for any creators to approach you at these functions, I even had comic vendors when looking for comics to add to my collection pay me no mind (Must be rich!!!)

     This first entry in the Dead Man's Party series of four books bleeds realism, this is no book for children or your basic superhero fan. You get into the main characters mind and the way he thinks. The art is beautiful and stunning, the writing is very intense and takes a few twists and turns that climaxes in a splendid ending too book one. Twenty-Six pages of pure octane excitement. Read issue #1 of the series that novelist and Birds of Prey writer Duane Swierczynski calls "super smart, sardonic and packed with surprises". This is what comics should be like and I look forward to future issues of a true diamond in the rough!

Hot pick of the week: Star Trek #3 The Galileo Seven Part 1 of 2 (IDW Publishing) Mike Johnson Writer/Stephen Molnar & Joe Phillips Art

In the not so distant past you would have a mini series released from IDW about one of the incarnations of Star Trek, for the first time they are tackling a monthly title dedicated to the new take on Star Treks 2010 movie. It has been a while since we had a monthly title for Star Trek, last time I remember is Marvel had a go at it and it was an utter failure. And before that D.C. Comics carried the reigns and did a pretty good job. But the series IDW has introduced is by far some of the best Star Trek material I have ever read. The art is fantastic, the story thus far stays so true to the T.V. shows and movies that it is indistinguishable. Can not wait for the next issue of this second story arc. Great read even for non Star Trek faithful.

Hot pick of the Week: Kick-Ass 2 #5 (Icon/Marvel Comics) Mark Millar Writer/John Romita Jr. & Tom Palmer Art

This book pushes the envelope every single issue and is so not suitable for children. This book is actually is a ners wet dream. As only can be brought to you by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. If you are a fan of Hit-Girl then you are in for a real treat since she has been sidelined since the beginning of this second story arc. Good to have her back in action and would be nice if they would start filming a sequel to the 2010 movie all would be great in the world of Kick-Ass

First and foremost I must thank all for the outpouring of support I have received the last 3 or so months and even before that. I started this project on August 16th 2011 and was wrapping it up by the middle of November. In that time I had to split my time between work, family and Spell #1, It was very hard to handle, but at the end of the day it was so satisfying. There were times I actually asked myself if it was worth the sacrifices and waking up the next day with only a few short hours of sleep. But now I am so proud of the book I have completed and hope everyone enjoys it. Hot pick of the week: Morning Glories #14 (Image Comics) Nick Spencer Writer/Joe Eisma Art/Rodin Esquejo Cover

This was a really hard choice with so many great books this week. Batman #3, Justice League #3, Red Hood and the Outlaws #3, The Transformers #30 & The Incredible Hulk #2, just to mention a few. But I judge a book not only on the story and the art, I also look for that idea that is right out of left field. It's the diamond in the rough that really make collecting comics a true joy. Morning Glories after fourteen short issues takes the crown when it comes to out of this world stories that are so thought provoking that it is like you are actually being schooled. I also have a feeling that without this creative team this book may not be as special as Morning Glories.

So I can report that Spell #1 has been uploaded to the printer and if everything goes smoothly, keeping my fingers crossed. If everything goes smoothly I can have a release date either on November 30th or December 9th. So again I appreciate the patience, but rest assured the comic is done and at the printer. Hot pick of the Week: Uncanny X-Force #17 The Dark Angel Saga: Chapter 7 (Marvel Comics) Rick Remender Writer/Jerome Opena Art

This is the true choice for top dog this week without any doubt. There was a good selection to choose from, just nothing that measured up to the marvelous story telling from Mr. Remender and the awesome eye popping master piece work laid out on the pages before you by Jerome Opena. This is the Apocalypse storyline that Marvel has not nailed down in years and years. The punch line is the major X nemesis of the X-Men, Apocalypse has not appeared on any of these pages and yet it still rings true to a devious plan put in motion by this awesome evil doer.

I do not want to sound like I am picking on this title, but I hated the whole deal. I must say atleast this issue I was some how able to turn the pages. It just did not work, not to mention the main heroine was missing for the whole series till the last issue.

It's almost here...Spell #1

It is almost here, I promise. Putting on the finishing touches over this weekend and hope to send it over to the publisher via Internet no later than Monday 11/14/11. I was hoping to have it available this Wednesday 11/16/11, at least for sale in print and download orders from Ka-Blam Printing. So sorry for the scheduling conflict this is the first book I have ever published solely alone. This was a long process over 90 days, but I did it and can not wait for the release of the book for all my followers to catch a my a book that I did truly put blood sweat and tears into. Sometimes life does get in the way, but this time I was able to get over all the hurdles and hope you all enjoy what I have labored over day and night.

More news to follow on all outlets that will carry the #1 issue of Spell and the first book released under the PsychoRelik Studios banner.

Hot pick of the week: Red Lanterns #3 (D.C. Comics) Peter Milligan Writer/Ed Benes Pencils/Rob Hunter Inks

I am going to make this short and sweet this week, too much to handle on the coloring chores for Spell #1 so I can get it out on the release date I have set I got to get this review out. With all the work it almost makes me wonder who in there right mind can handle all the chores on one book with out losing there mind, so without further ado. Red Lanterns is one of my favorite books and being a Green Lantern fan it hits home to have such a great creative team over seeing this book. Love the direction that the story line is flowing and with all the Lantern groups I must say Red is one of my favorite colors in the spectrum. Keep it up peeps!!!

This 1st issue of Wolverine and the X-Men was X-trodanary to say the least. It had the classic ring to it of a Generation relaunch with a touch of X that just down right can not be beat. Instant classic. The team of creators on this book are not new to the game and have spun a master piece with this issue that I was so looking forward too. I would have to put it in the top 20 list of the year.

First I have to say this is by far the best book of the week and one of my favorite series of the year. I must also plug in the X-Men Re-Genesis One Shot, One of the best X-books by far in a while. I can not wait for the new direction where Wolverine and Cyclops are at odds with each other, I am rooting for Wolverines side due to the fact that I think his team is more interesting even though Cyclops has the numbers. Now for the main event, Morning Glories since its inception has been high quality material that can match up to any big company booksand still whip there ass. I would not be able to ever pick this book if it changes the creative team of Spencer, Eisma and the awesome covers provided by Esquejo. This book was made for them and by them. Not many books have a 1st year solid run as this book has had and can not wait to see the direction they go in. Its like the T.V. series LOST on steroids.

I am such a Joss Whedon fan and this book is just unreadable. I grew up watching Buffy, Angel and Firefly, and was a big Dollhouse fan when it was on the tube. This is no where in the league of comic work done to those titles.

Hot pick of the week: Batman: Detective Comics #2 (D.C. Comics) Tony S. Daniels Pencils & Writer/Ryan Winn & Sandu Florea Inks

It was a very good week, no real stinkers and it came down to the wire on what was the hottest of the material released this week. Superior #5, Spawn #212 & Vescell #2 were all hot titles with great creative teams, but Tony S. Daniels takes the top honors for the second month in a row on Detective comics with his amazing creative team. They have done this book proud, I look forward to the journey they bring us on through the eyes of Batman and Bruce Wayne.

I will be attending the NYCC on Saturday October, 15th 2011, Stay posted for coverage that night. I will try to cover as much events as one person can possible do. Hasbro is there for the first time and it keeps growing. If you are in the area it runs for four days for the first time, October 13th to the 16th. It is a major event and you are sure to have fun. If you can not make it I will post images and news here on Saturday night. I have been working on Spell #1 and it will be out in paper as of 11.11.11

Hot pick of the week: Aquaman #1 (D.C. Comics) Geoff Johns Writer/Ivan Reis Pencils/Joe Prado Inks

It was a toss up between this book and Witchblade #148, Aquaman #1 took it hands down and I will explain why. This is one of the first books out of all the New 52 that I feel has a new spin on it and the spin is in the right direction. It does not hurt either to have a all star creative team on your book for good measure. Geoff Johns scribes a story that puts Aquaman in a whole new direction and he is not to be taken lightly, this also means no cheap shots. Ivan Reis (Green Lantern) pencils are fabulous as always and well complimented by Joe Prado's inks. This is one catch to not release.

Hot pick of the week: Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 (D.C Comics) Scott Lobdell Writer/Kenneth Rocafort Art

A handful of reviews on various sites picked Batman #1 this week, I didn't. Wait. Hold on. Do not get me wrong, Batman #1 was amazingly brought to you by veteran Greg Capullo's outstanding pencils and a beautifully woven story by Scott Snyder. But I think I found the diamond in the rough. I have not read such a enticing story from Mr. Lobdell since his X-men and Marvel Comics days and Kenneth Rocafort is truly a hidden talent. You do not hear a lot of pumping up for these two gentleman as other creators get now a days, I would pick this book up if you have not already done so. I think this book would get even better with either a bigger supporting cast or one to two more team members, not a team book but a mini-team. This could be Lobdell's next X-Men. It truly is an amazing book. Sad to see other sites have not rated it accordingly or given this gem higher praise. It looks like the same thing happened to Storm Watch #1, another book that I feel is ahead of the pack of 52 books.

Getting into week 2 of D.C.'s The New 52, I have not been blown away like I was expecting. I actually have felt not only the feeling of being let down but very disappointed by the basic fact that I was looking for something new and exciting and feel like I just turned on the T.V. and another re-run is on. But it actually is worse than that, till this week with the two offerings from the Green Lantern line. The Lantern light has truly shined a light on this re-launch/re-boot. Both books have really solid creative teams and I actually look forward to the next issue unlike so many other 52 titles. Only titles to shine before now was StormWatch, Detective Comics and Justice League, Not good when trying to relaunch your book line and bring in a new group of clients and keep your loyal customers.

Hot pick of the week: Stormwatch #1 (D.C. Comics) Paul Cornell Writer/Miguel Sepulveda Art

Out of the few samplings of The New 52! from D.C. Comics that I have picked up, this book not only puts them all to shame but also takes the throne over all the other competition this week. This is by far one of the best books I have read all year and can not wait for the next issue to come off the press. Has a twist of the original Storm Watch from Image comics and a new spin on the title with a hint of The Authority. The only thing missing from this book is Weatherman and Backlash from the original Image title. These two characters must be integrated into this title and the new D.C. Universe. Two solid characters that could take a bigger step into the D.C. universe and fit quite well. Just saying!!!

Hot pick of the week: Justice League #1 (D.C. Comics) Geoff Johns Writer/Jim Lee Pencils/Scott Williams Inks

The new 52 is here and the opening barrage of books is Justice League #1, and it's hit it's mark. Geoff Johns puts up a good story that introduces only a hand full of the league but still doesn't disappoint. While even with Jim Lee off the scene of handling of a monthly title still shows why he is one of the top rated artist in the field. Scott Williams always has Jim Lee's back with his tight ink work over his pencils and the colors by Alex Sinclair complements this books so well. This book also has historic value in a downturn of sales, declining sales to anyone under the age of 30 and a double dip recession, these high valued names in the industry can still sell a whole lot of copies. Just pre-sales alone accounted for 200,000 books sold. Great things will come from this book.

At first when Jason Aaron took this book over I was at a cross road of loving this book to just outright hatting it. But Mr. Aaron has made me a true believer in this beautiful tale that he weaves. The art is pretty much solid all the time and each and every issue to date has come with an amazing cover by the legendary Jae Lee (Namor, The Dark Tower). This book is a must read from front cover to book end, you will not be putting this series down disappointed.

Hot pick of the week: Generation Hope #10 Schism Tie-In (Marvel Comics) Kieron Gillen Writer/Tim Seeley Art

This week was dominated by Tie-In's and major Marvel Comic events. Out of them finishing on top is Generation Hope #10 with words and finger painting provided by the dominant Kieron Gillen & Tim Seeley. It was an amazing issue which I am still fighting with myself if it should of been read before or after X-Men Schism #3. You figure it out on your own!

Hot pick of the week: Morning Glories #11 (Image Comics) Nick Spencer Writer/Joe Eisma Art/Rodin Esquejo Cover

Wow eleven issues and I need to page turn this hot little number as quick as I pick it up. The creative team on this book just keeps the amazing entertainment coming at high octane pace. The only downfall is this issue is late by about two months give or take and I hope the scheduling is resolved so we get a issue every month. That is how much I love this book and the adventure it is to turn each creative page. Image has been putting a lot of good material out lately, keep it up.

Here's the thing about this title, I am a big Farscape fan. I watched it when it was on Sci-Fi channel (Not the lame SyFy channel) and have the DVDs, But this incarnation is just losing it way to fast. Started out solid as a few mini-series's and then the and then they regular monthly title. In the middle there were a few one-shots and mini-series that were pretty solid and can never forget the Scorpius series that ended way to end. Hopefully thy find there footing soon, not a really good job on the scribes and the art is not as good as former artists of this beloved title.

Every time Dark Horse Comics comes out with a brand spanking new Dark Times series it's always a fantastic journey into the galaxy based a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The story is always at light speed and the beautiful pictures are presented before you by the legendary Douglas Wheatley. Always a great hop, skip and a jump through hyper-space.

Loved this series up to this issue, was not as spectacular as the past issues, was pretty lack luster.

Star Wars Dark Times might of took the highest notch this week but I had to mention The Infinite is a must purchase. Brings you back to the early days of Image when the creativeness used to just roll of all those big names that defected from Marvel to form this super comic company. A lot of time Rob Liefeld is either celebrated or dragged through the mud for his artist style. I for one have always stood strong and supported Rob Liefeld and love the work he puts in. This title is the beginning of something old and something new provided by the greats such as Liefeld and Kirkhman. Don't pass it up.

Marvel Comics:

Cable will be back from Marvel this winter and Joe Quesada said there will be a major X-Event around April 2012, As always X-Events are always a big draw. Also Ghost Rider 2 and the Avengers movies are in the works with another Thor movie on the way. No word on a new X-Men First Class movie. Keep your fingers crossed.

D.C. Comics:

As everyone knows the big news out of D.C. Comics and Jim Lee is the re-boot of the 52 books. At first news of this earlier in the spring I was kind of annoyed by this move, since then I am very excited at this move and can not wait for the September relaunch. Plus on the horizon a new Green Lantern Movie, Superman and in the works a live action Justice League.

Image Comics:

A new Darkness video game is in the works from SDK and a live action movie is in the works.

T.V.:

Walking Dead Returns to AMC October 16th, 2011

Terra-Nova premiers this fall on September 26th will it be a hot or a major miss?

Spartacus should return in the first quarter of 2012

Big Screen:

Steven Spielberg reported that Jurassic Park 4 will be out in 2 to 3 years.

Underworld 4 is being made and the Hotness names Kate Bekinsale will be back.

Realativity is working on a live action Voltron Movie, Anything has to be better than the new cartoon on Nick Jr.

Total Recall is coming back with John Cho & Jessica Biel, I heard they will not be on Mars and No Arnold. I do not think he will be back.

Animation:

Hot pick of the week: X-Men: Schism #1 of 5 (Marvel Comics) Jason Aaron (Wolverine) Writer/Carlos Pacheco (X-Men) Pencils/Cam Smith Inks

The X-men have had some great events and crossovers over the years that have been mind blowing and a few stinkers in between. X-Men Schism #1 is the latter of the two and I expect it to exceed even my expectations for this new X-event. Jason Aaron provides a very fast paced story fit for a great event such as Schism. Carlos Pacheco and Cam Smith translate a nicely written story into equally great pictures to complete this strong book.

Hot Pick of the week: Fear Itself: Uncanny X-Force #1 of 3 (Marvel Comics) Rob Williams Writer/Simone Bianchi Art

I have been a big fan of X-Force ever since its inception in the 90's when it formed from the ashes of The New Mutants #100 blazing a trail by Rob Liefeld. Since then there has been a few incarnations of the title and have always thought it was a strong title in the Marvel Comics bullpen and X-Family. This Fear Itself tie-in is no diffrent with a great story by Rob Williams and artwork by the awesome Simon Bianchi.

I feel this book has not been up to the standards of one of the best comic books in the history of this medium should be at. Lately my mind has been changing slowly and I Like what I have been seeing and reading. I think Marvel might of just lost there way when this book got into the early 300 issues and now they are regaining the glory that this title once had the honor of holding. Great creative team on this fast paced action packed issue.

Hot pick of the week: The Mighty Thor #3 (Marvel Comics) Matt Fraction Writer/Olivier Coipel Pencils

I'll be honest, I was never a big fan of Thor up until about a year ago when Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry took over as the creative team. Ever since this is one of those titles that I just cant wait to get my hands on every month and I even loved the movie. A plus for me is that the first 3 issues so far have been graced with the presence of my favorite cosmic character Silver Surfer. Can not wait to see what happens next issue with Galactus now on the scene.

Hot pick of the week: X-Men Legacy #250 (Marvel Comics) Mike Carey Writer/Khoi Pham & Steve Kurth Pencils

This book stands out the most of all the books I read this week, with two outstanding stories in this giant sized mile stone issue. Looks like the start of a new team and direction for X-Men Legacy and both stories were on the mark and ended with jaw dropping endings craving for the next issue. All this great X material and for good measure Marvel threw in a reprint of the classic issue of New Mutants #27 by legends Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz. Dont pass this one up.

Hot pick of the week: Uncanny X-Force #11 The Dark Angel Saga Chapter 1 (Marvel Comics) Rick Remender Writer/Mark Brooks Pencils

I thought when the Age of Apocalypse came out it was a solid story with great creative teams and alternate universal characters that were bad ass. Marvel Comics keeps with tradition in chapter 1 of The Dark Angel Saga, where the rest of the X-Force team goes to the Age of Apocalypse to get a cure for Archangel before he turns into the incarnation of Apocalypse himself. Awesome story and art as always in this stand out title.

      First I want to say I had a great relaxing Memorial Day Weekend and I hope you had a awesome and enjoyable weekend too. Other than the weekly comic review that's basically all that will be posted from now on and through the summer months. I will host another artist's work and mine from time to time with sneak peaks of God Complex which I hope to have out by September of this year, but other than that the summer will be a time to step away for posting and get this project done.

   As of now the story is done and I am working on character and location sketch's, I have a goal to start pencils and inks by next week and then start the editorial and word balloon process. Still am at a cross road on whether I want to do it in color or just stick to the natural inked black and white as in most Manga titles. I am going to try and release PsychoRelik Studios Presents #1 and then have a new page posted every week on the site itself and may follow up in a printed volume later on down the road.

Hot pick of the week: X-Men Giant Size #1 (Marvel Comics) Chris Yost Writer/Paco Medina & Dalabor Talajic Pencils

It has been a long while that I picked up an X-Title and was totally blown away for a long, long time. Last time I actually remember really walking away from an X-Event with it etched in to my brain cause of great writing and art was back in the days of X-Tinction Agenda, Inferno, Fall of the Mutants and some few events that were either written by Chris Claremont or drawn by the likes of Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio or Joe Madueria. Yeah it has been a while since I was so over whelmed by a story of what this book represents and I hope of what this event will become. All around thumbs up and five stars.

Next Men

     This week I picked up John Byrne's Next Men #6 (IDW Publishing) and was very surprised at the work on the inside of the cover that I just had to have the previous issues. This is without reading a single page of issue number uno. To my utter surprise I was able to seek out all five previous issues in the back issue bins at my local comic store (Miracle). I would proceed home to read all the other titles from this weeks offerings that I picked up for the week. I sidelined the 6 issues of Next Men for the finale to my comic week. Even without reading a page of these books I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that these books would either be HOT or would just go POP and suck the big one.

     Well I am happy to report and quite impressed with the books in my sweaty palms as I feverishly read one issue after another. The storyline picks right up after the end of Byrne's Dark Horse Comics series that ended with issue #30 which concluded in 1994. If you notice the IDW series starts with issue #1 but next to the number of the new issues is a 3 before the number staying with the significance of a continuing saga. Even if you never read a single issue of the Dark Horse series you will get into this storyline before issue one is finished and the story is just so fluid in its story that a newcomer would be able to get into the flow of the story and enjoy it as it unfolds. This is one hell of a page turner and can not wait till next month for the next jaw dropping issue.

     In conclusion I must say this is some of the legendary John Byrne's greatest work to date, it brings me back to a time when he brought his takes on such great books like Uncanny X-Men , Alpha Flight and Superman The Man of Steel. This is a must read for any collector or novice comic reader.

It was about eight or so months back when I started really getting into the Thor material with the regular Thor title that now is Journey into Mystery and Thor: For Asgard limited series. All I have seen from these titles has been continued outstanding stories and amazing artwork. Well the same continues in the second issue of Journey into Mystery with the great scribe Kieron Gillen and beautiful artwork by Doug Braithwaite. Keep in coming fellows.

This series keeps getting better, I am a little let down after reading the first two issues and knowing this is only a seven issue limited series. This book could turn into so much, much more and seven issues might not be enough for me. This is not a complaint in the least, this is the highest compliment you can give a talented team on any comic book. Can not wait for the ride to continue this joy ride next month.

Before I give you my review of Marvel Studio's Thor, I'd like to give you an idea of who I am. I'm a HUGE fanboy. X-Men, Spidey, Justice League, BatMan, you get the idea. CBM's are very important to me, so when a hear about my childhood heroes being brought to the silver screen, I get excited. Really excited. Sometimes I get so emotionally involved in these movies that I get angry when they aren't treated with the respect they deserve...don't ever let me see a Fox exec walk down the street. They've destroyed the X-Men franchise. X-Men Origins : Wolverine was a chick flick, I was waiting for Meg Ryan to pop up and simulate an orgasm in a diner again. Enough about me, on to the main event.

When I heard Marvel Studios were committed to making an Avengers movie by releasing stand alone movies, and then crossing all the movies together into one Mega-Blockbuster I could t wait to see this happen. Iron Man came out, I geeked. The Incredible Hulk came next and I geeked! I knew IM2 was going to be great, but in the back of my mind, I always wondered about Thor.

Thor- the blond hair blue eyed "God of Thunder" who swings a crazy hammer, can fly, and oh yeah... Kick major ass. That dude. I'm not going to bullshit and say I know everything there is to know about Thor comics. I am well verse in mythology, Greek and Nordic, so I've always had an idea of the whole Thor vs. Loki dynamic. I was concerned that Marvel was in way over their heads. Thor is a mythological figure who lives in a magical realm called Asgard, where the "God of God's" is Odin the All Father (Anthony Hopkins). In this magical realm, you'll find other God's as well as other mythical creatures such as the Frost Giants of Jottenhiem. Yeah... Frost Giants. In a cinematic universe where a billionaire inventor flies around in Red and gold armor I asked myself how in the hell was Marvel going to pull off adding a Viking with a cape and hammer?

Well...pull it off they did. In stellar fashion at that. The special effects were nothing short of amazing. Asgard was a REAL place. The studio responsible for the special effects made sure to capture the splendor of a place inhabited by god like beings. The golden buildings shimmering in the sunlight, the cascading waterfalls bubbled blue, 3D made me feel like I was in the water. The costumes, the helmets, were from a time long ago, yet, I want to wear Thor's helmet to work tomorrow. Kenneth Branagha crossed his T's and dotted his I's.

The relationship between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was strained since they were children. You can see Thor's pompous ego drip off him even as a little kid. At first, you can't help but feel a little sorry for the timid, even humble Loki. He knew at an early age that Thor would always be the apple of their father's eye. As they grew older so did Loki's resentment of Thor. So much so that it became visible amongst Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and The Warriors 3, (Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Josh Dallas).

Thor’s massive ego was nearly his downfall. Loki manipulated Thor into declaring war against the Frost Giants, against his father’s wishes. These actions led to Odin banishing Thor to Midgard (Earth) where he meets and falls in love with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Powerless, Thor must come to terms with his humanity. He sticks out like a sore thumb, a Norse God in a desert town in New Mexico…go figure.

New Mexico was the perfect setting, it allowed for plenty of mayhem and destruction, especially when The Destroyer showed up to kill Thor, and all the town folk. It took a selfless act, from a selfish warrior to save the day. Thor swung Mjolnir (the hammer) relentlessly. From beating down Frost Giants, to pounding The Destroyer into submission, to creating a vortex out of thin air, Marvel spared no expense in making Mjolnir just as much a character in this movie as Thor.

Throw in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), who was pretty bad ass, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, the Bruce Banner reference by Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard), Thanos’ Gauntlet in Odin’s vault, the Cosmic Cube, and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and you’ve got the makings of one heck of a movie. By no means was it better than Iron Man, it is better than Iron Man 2, and a great start to a franchise. I can’t wait for The Avengers. Hot pick of the week: Venom #2 (Marvel Comics) Rick Remender Writer/Tony Moore Art/Danny Miki Inks

this was a really tight week for the hottest pick between Venom #2, Action Comics #900, The Mighty Thor #1 and X-23 #9. In the end Venom still won out right and very well should of with the legendary team that is helming this book. I still am wondering if this book took over a month to come out and can not decide if it was just the waiting and anticipation or if it was late. I can not think of having another book such as Batman: Dark Knight be late when it is such a anticipated book. But all in all this book is the title contender of the week with awesome pictures and words and I like many can not wait for issue three to come out.

I root so much for Jim Shooter and I crave for the 90's when Valiant Comics was a hot item. No book put out by Valiant back then didn't do anything but shine like gold. I keep looking for that rush that those comics provided me back when, but to no avail I just don't get the feeling that I am looking for. I see little flashes and it does not feel too much like a reintroduction as a re-tooling of my beloved Valiant characters.

Hot pick of the week: Uncanny X-Force #8 (Marvel Comics) Rick Remender (Fear Agent, Venom) Writer/Billy Tan Art (Uncanny X-Men)

I really enjoyed the last incarnation of X-Force and was a little sad to see it go, But true Marvel believers Rick Remender has cooked up some great scribes for you to read with Uncanny X-Force. This issue was by far the best in the series so far story wise and art wise with the talented Billy Tan handling the artistic chores on this issue. Good to see the Shadow King up to his evil lordshipness and Psylocke is in that awesome Jim Lee/Chris Claremont inspired Ninja armor in this go round. To bad the purple bandages just show too much skin or this would be on her at all times. Loved this book, pick it up.

Every time I pick up an IDW G.I. Joe comic I feel like this will be the one where it all goes down hill. IDW has yet to disappoint me, with some of the talent they have working on these books it is not a surprise at the caliber of the stories and art you find in this famed franchise. I was kind of nervous when they stopped the books to do a relaunch, I hate relaunches and after reading this book it is clear as day that it is the continuation of the franchise that they have been handling at such a high level for about three years now. It is not so much a relaunch as another salvo of more good G.I. Joe to come from IDW. Plus you will be surprised at the body count Cobra mounts up over the Joe's

Hot pick of the week: Thor #621 (Marvel Comics) Matt Fraction Writer/Pasqual Ferry & Salvador Larroca Art

I was never a big fan of Thor till this series was taken over by the current creative team. The writing have been superb since they took over with issue 615, even the fill in issue 620.5 was amazing and Ferry did not do the art for that issue. But all good things must come to an end and after seven issues the creative team will be replaced as of issue 622 and the title will be changed to Journey into Mystery. I will keep picking up just to see how things go.

     First off I would like to say that God Complex is coming along just great and I think I can meet the deadline of a late September release as planned. I am working feverishly (I mean this quite literally, I have been sick for a week and a half and am just starting to feel like myself) on the storyline, thumbnails of pages and panels and character designs. Matter of a fact the story has evolved into something grander than I first had designed and I am quite pleased that it will stand up to some of the works that are on the comic book shelves of today. So enough about me and this little book called God Complex, More updates to come in the following months.

     So as you know every week I feature a new artist, comic reviews, TV for comic book lovers, any new or classic art by yours truly and any other big news and tidbits I can post on the comic industry that I would think you would find interesting and entertaining. A little speed bump of sorts happened this week, I try to get artists I know or meet on Facebook to showcase there work. The showcasing of other works from other artist has no monetary value or any other life changing events that effect me in any way. I do this out of the love of comic book art and fantasy art, also as an artist I know the value on getting your work out there for the public to see. Even if it is on a little upstart web-site as PsychoRelik Studios.

     So I contacted this artist (No names will be mentioned I am not a vindictive person by nature) and he in a nice way I guess turned me down and said he had to think about it. Turns out and I may say in a way he has a valid point, He has a problem with how I introduce artists every week. If you are a repeat offender or new to the site every week I would introduce the artist as Welcoming them to the PsychoRelik Family. In a way it does kind of make it sound like they may in some way work for PsychoRelik Studios or have some kind of connection to PsychoRelik Studios. This is not the case nor true, All art displayed by anyone other than me, myself and I is in fact owned by the artist being showcased and I do put a all rights reserved by said artist at the bottom of every post that I have done on an artist other than myself, I even go as far as putting a copyright for any superheroes or characters that are owned by any company in order to cover all those sticky legal bases.

     I just needed to get this off my chest and make sure the public knew what was going on. I guess I will be changing the welcome for new artists starting with the artist I will be introducing today. I hope maybe this might sway the person who turned me down to let me post his work cause it is mighty stunning and I would love to showcase his work.

Hot pick of the week: Haunt #14 (Image Comics) Robert Kirkman Writer/Greg Capullo Pencils/Todd McFarlane inks

The last time I felt this way about a comic, especially this far into a run was in when Spawn was released in 1992. Every heart pounding issue with spectacular art and a solid story. Well the same goes for Haunt, It has been an incredible ride so far and I hope it keeps going strong. That is something I do not hold in doubt when it comes to a all-star cast of Kirkman/Capullo & McFarlane.

This book was a hot lister until the very last page, It just did'nt work for me what-so ever. Not sure if it is just the whole idea of the last page or if another artist could pull something off to make it work. Either way this one page has killed the first 3 books for me.
