Comic Reviews for the Week of 9/25/13

Pick of the Week: Jupiter's Legacy #3 (Image Comics) Mike Millar Writer/Frank Quitely Art

What a breath of fresh air in the super hero genre! No really...80% of the books produced by Marvel and D.C. that fit this stereo type feel re-hashed and yet done over and over again.  I am happy to report the D.C. Comics bombardment of 3-D covers is over, I promise your wallets will feel heavier this month. This is a book for you longtime comic book enthusiasts that want something hardcore and full throttle. If you are familiar with Millar's creations and writing you know it is not for the feint of hear. He does not let done with Jupiter's Legacy, he pushes the limits even more to the breaking point. What can I say about Quitely's art other then it is a supreme master piece, the amount of detail paid to every single eye lifting panel is exemplary. If you have not picked up this issue or book in general get of your ass and get over to your nearest store and pick it up, you will not be disappointed in the least.

Runner-Up: Guardians of the Galaxy #6 (Marvel Comics) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Sara Pichelli & Olivier Coipel Art/Neil Gaiman Consultant

Six issues in a Guardians is looking like a real winner. Even though the cover does not say this is a tie in to Infinity, it sure is. The team has not changed much from the last incarnation on GotG with the exception of Tony (Iron-Man) Stark and now Angela (formerly from Image's Spawn). I have heard a few people groan about Angela joining the Marvel universe and I can say I do not have a problem with this move what so ever. Matter of a fact I am excited about Angela not only joining the Marvel universe but more importantly the GotG. I do not thin I can recall when a hero or villain has jumped from a company under the circumstances. Great book all around, happy to have great Marvel Cosmic material.

Comic Book Reviews for the Week of 9/18/13

Pick of the Week: BloodShot and Hard C.O.R.P.S. #14 (Valiant Comics) Writer Christos Gage & Joshua Dysart/Pencils Emanuela Lupacchino

Well after a lot of consideration I am back, plus I do enjoy this and it does not take away from the time I put into my art work. Maybe a hour at most to post this blog. I guess you all forgot what Valiant did in the early 90'S? They were a power house, they released books and they ripped through the comic guides and increased in value as fast as a Concorde. Well 17 months since Valiant's relaunch and it shows they are carrying on the tradition of Jim Starlins great upstart when he launched this company. Now Valiant is back and this book was flat out fantastic. This is what a comic book should be, amazing interaction between the cast and good art. This is the combination for success.I actually read a post from someone on Facebook and they said this is one of the best books they read in a while, guess what? They were right, I can not wait for the next issue of this somewhat new title. Great jumping on point for new readers. If you have not picked up Valiant all I can say is C'Mon people, this is how comics should be.

Runner-Up: Aphrodite IX #4 (Top Cow/Image) Matt Hawkins Writer/Stjepan Sejic Art

I do not want to take away from any other books this week, I may add Infinity #3 and New Avengers #10 which were both tie ins to Marvels big event were amazing, except I can not pass a book like Aphrodite. I remember the classic book back in the 90's by Finch and this surpasses it so far by leaps and bounds. Get this is you are a big sci-fi geek. Also I must tell you to get anything Infinity marked, they might of got beat out this week but so far the event reminds me of what Star Wars was if it was a comic book from the jump.

Also Hot: Batman #23.3 Penguin #1 (D.C. Comics), Justice League America #7.3 (D.C. Comics), Cable and X-Force #14 (Marvel Comics), Infinity #3 (Marvel Comics), New Avengers #10 Infinity Tie-In (Marvel Comics), Superior Carnage #3 (Marvel Comics), Uncanny X-Men #12 (Marvel Comics)

Honorable Mention: Star Wars Dark Times: A Spark Remains pt. 3 (Dark Horse Comics), Batman Detective Comics #23.3 Scarecrow #1 (D.C. Comics), Green Lantern #23.3 Black Hand #1 (D.C. Comics), Superman #23.3 Hel #1 (D.C. Comics), Savage Wolverine #8 (Marvel Comics), Cyber Force #6 (Top Cow/Image), Morning Glories #31 (Image Comics), Harbinger #16 (Valiant Comics), X-O Man O War #17 (Valiant Comics), The Transformers Regeneration One #0 (IDW Publishing)

No, Just No: Justice League #23.3 Dial E #1 (D.C. Comics) I usually do not write about a book that just is toilet paper, but I must. I have been picking up books for about 30 of my 38 years walking this earth and this is the worst book I have ever read. I will actually take my time to write a email to D.C. Comics to actually get a refund, this is not even good enough for toilet paper!

PsychoRelik Studios Update

Spell #2 will be available sometime before 2014, this is a promise. In the mean time I will be working on Spell #3 and another title to be announced soon with my friend Javier (Pupet) Colon. It is not titled yet, at least to the public and news will be coming in the early future regarding Spell #3 and this new project which I am excited about. I am sorry it has been a long time in between posts, but yu need to understand I am trying to get accustomed to fatherhood. I have not been around a lot of children growing up and this is a whole new experience to me. I feel like things are getting easier and more settled and I should be able to get back to work on a normal schedule. I hope you stick around, I also thank the fans and supporters that constantly contact me regarding that status of my projects. Give it a few months and you will have Spell #2 in your physical hands and #3 in the works and the new project that I am co creating coming up next.

Thank you,
