Comic Reviews for the Week of 10/16/13

Pick of the Week: Guardians of the Galaxy #7 (Marvel Comics) Brian Michael Bendis Writer/Sara Pichelli & Valerio Schiti Art

Another week and Marvel takes the top two spots yet again with its Infinity event. Nothing really came close to GotG #7 and Avengers #21...Nothing!!! In a mediocre week only a few books stood out and that is not saying much when the pull pile from this week was 5 of the 16 books were good enough to compete for the top honors. Bendis keeps rolling with a captivating tale of the yet again re launched Guardians of the Galaxy, the art has been top notch from the jump and with the addition of Iron-Man and Angela this book remains in my sites every month. Lets see if this title stays on top when it joins the epic event Infinity in 30 or so days!

Runner-Up: Avengers #21 Infinity tie-in (Marvel Comics) Jonathan Hickman Writer/Lenil Francis Yu Pencils

Never have been a big Avengers fan, even after the motion picture. But since most of the Avengers books are tied into Infinity I had to have the titles pulled for the next few months. Hickman writes a splendid story just like his past endeavors on other titles and Yu always lays down some awesome pages. I have been picking up this book since the prologue for Infinity and I may even go back and get back issues. This Avengers volume is by far some of my favorite work since Mike Deodato Jr took over after his run on Wonder Women in the 90's.

Also Hot: Batman/Superman #4 (D.C. Comics), Redhood and the Outlaws #24 (D.C. Comics), X-O Manowar #18 (Valiant Ent.)

Honorable Mention: Green Lantern: New Guardians #24 Lights Out Pt. 3 (D.C. Comics), Justice League #8 Forever Evil tie -in (D.C. Comics), Avengers Assemble #20 Infinity tie-in (Marvel Comics), Cable and X-Force #15 (Marvel Comics), Hunger #4 (Marvel Comics), New Avengers #11 Infinity tie-in (Marvel Comics), Uncanny X-Men #13 Battle of the Atom Chapter 8 (Marvel Comics), Morning Glories #33 (Image Comics), G.I. Joe A Real American Hero! #195 (IDW Publishing), Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #22 Prelude to Dark Cybertron (IDW Publishing), Blood Shot and H.A.R.D. Corps #15 (Valiant Ent.)

Not So Much: Everyone was safe yet again for another week, but do not sleep. Uncanny X-Men almost came close this week, only save was Bachalo's art and the last page made me say "Not bad, could be better". Also must point out Hunger pulled up from it's nose dive  few weeks ago when I thought it was one of the worst books I ever read, ended this series off better than I thought.
